Beginning Level

Introduction to Surface Embroidery

Instructor: Jill Nedeau
1 session, $50 + kit
June 8, 9:30 am–12:30 pm
Class limited to six students

Learn a few basic embroidery stitches in preparation for learning how to do stumpwork and silk ribbon embroidery: straight stitch, back stitch, French knot, outline and stem stitch, chain stitch, and buttonhole. This class is a prerequisite for “Stumpwork.”

Beginning Punchneedle: Merrey Design Seashell

Learn the proper technique for threading a punchneedle and punching a simple, colorful design. Once you’ve mastered a few steps, you’ll be hooked! Fee includes fabric with printed design, floss, and doodle cloth. Students will need to purchase a punchneedle and hoop at the first session, or bring their own.

Introduction to Stumpwork

2 sessions, $50 + kit
June 25 & August 6, 6:30 pm–8:30 pm
Class limited to six students
Prerequisite: Some stitch knowledge or "Introduction to Surface Embroidery"

Just what is stumpwork, and how is it done? In this class you’ll learn some basic stitches and elements to create a sampler that can be drawn from to stitch a simple stumpwork piece. The following stitches will be taught: bullion knot, covered beads, needle weaving, whipped spider, cast on, and padded satin. Please bring the following to class: Needle threader, sharp embroidery
scissors,  a place for pins (cushion or box), #2 pencil, a small ruler, and a hoop at least 5”.

Beyond Beginning: The Next Step

Start stitching on linen while creating Elizabeth Design’s Bee Kind. Learn or refresh your technique for stitching over two along with some specialty stitches

Beginning Cross-Stitch
